I successfully completed my PhD in Health Professions Education Research at the Institute of Health Policy, Management and Evaluation, University of Toronto in August 2023 and beginning a post-doctoral role at McMaster University, while also continuing as a research fellow at the Wilson Centre. I have a Master’s in Professional Communication and undergraduate degree in English and Sociology. I’m interested in the way health professionals use written texts to optimize communication, collaboration, and advocacy in complex practice settings. My doctoral research explored the impacts of teaching for critically reflective practice in the context of clinical report and letter writing. My first study demonstrated that dialogic pedagogy can change the way interprofessional learners write reports and letters by sparking critical reflection. My second and third studies build on this work by exploring what critically reflective letters look like and what effects they have.

My favourite book… it’s so hard to choose just one! One of my favourites is Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer. Kimmerer beautifully weaves together Indigenous knowledge with Western science in an exploration of humans’ relationships with nature. It’s a book I find myself picking up over and over again. I’m currently reading Where’d You Go Bernadette by Maria Semple, which is a great summer read. My favourite podcast is On Being, but lately I’m more of an audiobook listener than a podcast listener! Shhh… don’t tell the rest of the lab!

In my free time you can find me rock climbing at Rock Oasis with friends, hanging out at my cottage with family, or curled up on the couch with my cat Ophelia reading a good book!
